    Decathlon launches electric bicycles with self-developed drive systems

    According to foreign media reports, Decathlon will launch the B'Twin LD 920 E electric bike with automatic drive in September. The accompanying drive system is the Owuru drive system that Decathlon and startup E2 Drives developed over a three-year period. The B'Twin LD 920 E e-bike equipped with this automatic drive will be officially released under Decathlon's own B'Twin brand. The B'Twin LD 920 E e-bike was shown during Decathlon's annual "Showcase Innovation" event in 2022, and was originally scheduled to be released in spring 2023, but has now been pushed back to the official release in August, with no specific reason given for the delay. The drive system consists of two engine control components and eight sensors integrated on a single motherboard, providing a practical and space-saving layout in the engine bay. The powerful microcontroller monitors the performance of the entire 48W motor system, which is powered by a fully integrated battery with a capacity of 702Wh. The bike is assembled at Decathlon's own assembly plant in B'TWIN, Lille. All components except handlebars, brakes and pedals are developed in-house. The touchscreen display is integrated into the riser and can be selected in different modes, such as Eco, Standard or Boost. There's also a walking mode to make pushing a bike easier, and a built-in GPS tracker helps locate the bike to prevent theft. Weighing 26.1 kg, the urban e-bike, which comes in men's and women's versions, will soon be available in Decathlon's online and offline stores with a suggested retail price of 2,999 euros. Specialized officially launches the Tarmac SL8 — faster than the Venge, stiffer and lighter than the SL7, and all-new 'speed sniffer' head tube. Riding Specialized means riding superlatives, at least in terms of marketing. But is the Specialized Tarmac SL8 a revolutionary new take on road cycling? True to the motto “One Bike to Rule Them All”, Specialized continue to push the boundaries in an attempt to create the ultimate all-round racer. This time, however, the American manufacturer really means business, presenting what’s meant to be not only the lightest, but also the fastest bike in the peloton. The OMX top frame uses 90 fewer carbon fiber slices than the OMR secondary frame. Then, use lighter hardware (40 grams), lighter paint (25 grams), and lighter varnish (15 grams) to finish the frame. The second-tier OMR frame weighs 1030 grams, and the fork is 410 grams. The OMR frame is cheaper and can save a lot of budget, which you can invest in frame accessories to reduce weight. The Orca, while focused on light weight, still has some aerodynamic improvements without compromising frame weight. Using the ICR full internal cable routing system hides the cables while retaining the adjustability of traditional barsets. The Orca is equipped with lightweight bars from Orbea's sub-brand Oquo. Although the traditional round seatpost is not aerodynamic enough, the well-hidden seatpost clamp is also an aerodynamic design.     Cross-country racing in XC is a field marked by maximum heart rate, aerobic and lactate thresholds, where reducing load is more important than anything else. In the past, this single focus has led designers to compromise on suspension performance, frame stiffness, handling integrity and ride quality. An overview of the Pivot Mach 4 SL The Pivot Mach 4 SL is a short travel XC race bike that’s designed to compete with the likes of the Giant Anthem, Scott Spark and Specialized Epic World Cup. While it looks similar to the old version, the frame is all-new for 2023. It draws a lot from the development of the latest Les SL hardtail, with the primary goal being to reduce overall weight. Compared to the previous model the tube profiles are notably slimmer, the linkage has been pared right back, and the carbon layup has also been updated. The rear brake mount now sits on the chainstay, which allows the seatstay tubes to be made thinner and lighter. Furthermore, each frame size is said to have undergone an independent strength-to-weight analysis to ensure that overall stiffness and ride quality is consistent across the range regardless of rider height. It’s gotten much lighter The result of all this crafty carbon engineering is a claimed weight reduction of 300-400g. That represents an enormous drop of around 17% over the previous version, which is huge! According to Pivot, a Medium size Mach 4 SL frame weighs 1,975g including the shock. After some digging, it turns out that this number doesn’t include any hardware. Once you add in all of the cable ports, Tool Dock cover and the very generous amount of frame protection, the claimed weight grows to 2,087g. Here’s how that number compares to the claimed weights from Pivot’s competitors; As you’ll see from that list, the Mach 4 SL isn’t the lightest XC bike on the market. However, it is the only one that doesn’t use a flex-stay suspension design, so we’re not exactly comparing apples to apples here. It would seem that apples are hard to find too, as there are very few bikes on the race circuit that use a multi-link platform. The BMC Fourstroke is the most well-known example, and that frame is claimed to weigh 2.4kg with the shock and hardware. That is quite a bit heavier, and it makes the Mach 4 SL’s svelte figure all the more impressive. Dual-link, dual-travel suspension Just like its predecessor, the new Mach 4 SL is designed around a 100-120mm travel fork. Market values have been slowly but steadily declining since ebike sales gained momentum. The average retail price of bicycle products currently imported into Europe has risen sharply. Europe's ebike imports have grown by double digits and have outpaced bike shipments into Europe. The total sales volume of Asian bicycle exporting countries in 2022 will be lower than that in 2021. Total shipments of general bicycles decreased by 6.37% from 5.4 million units in 2021 to more than 5 million units last year.
