The new Rapide integrated handlebar creates further aerodynamic gain with smoother airflow, allowing it to save about 4W more power than the already excellent Rapide split bar combined with the Tarmac SL7 stem. The goal of the Roval engineering team was simple - to make the Rapide faster all in one without sacrificing anything else. It is aerodynamic, light and stiff, developed in collaboration with WorldTour drivers and Retül fit experts.
Aerodynamic advantage
Remove the components at the junction of the handlebar and the stem, so that the integrated handlebar design has a more advanced intergrated airfoil shape. The optimized airfoil can provide the maximum possible speed advantage for long-distance solo flight and World Tour level sprint to the finish line. The power advantage of about 4W does not seem to be much, but in the 250m finish sprint, it means about 32cm advantage.
Rigid and light
Remove the components at the connection between the handlebar and the stem, so that the Rapide integrated handle is about 50g (100mm×420mm) lighter than the combination of the Rapide split handlebar and the Tarmac SL7. High-quality high-modulus carbon fiber material brings more rigidity to the strong sprinters on the World Tour. The Rapide integrated bar is stronger than any split bar set in terms of stiffness-to-weight ratio.
Aerodynamic
Removing the cluster of hardware (where stem and handlebar connect) allowed us to design the bar’s leading edge a single airfoil. We optimized this airfoil to provide a maximum advantage in clean air at speeds seen from long solo breakaways to full gas World Tour sprints. While a four watt improvement may seem small, it adds up to a 32cm lead over a 250m final sprint. When races are won by bike throws, this is a winning difference.
