New Specialized Allez Deleted rim brake , adds disc brakes and space for 35mm tyres
    May 24, 2023

The Specialized Allez is one of the most popular beginner’s road bikes on the market and it’s getting a significant update. The previous model was only available with rim brakes and 28mm tyre clearance, but the new Allez change to disc brakes. The American brand says the switch has been made because disc brakes offer “greater confidence, power and modulation”. With clearance for 35mm road bike tyres, there is plenty of space for full-length mudguards. Specialized has provided the three standard mounting points at the chainstay bridge, asymmetric seatstay bridge, and just above the axles. The additional tyre clearance opens up the possibility of using the Allez as a bike for more than just road riding. While Specialized says the bike is still designed primarily for paved surfaces, it claims it “is surely capable of light-duty gravel, smoothing out rough pavement, and exploring off the typical beaten path”. Specialized Allez specifications Specialized says the geometry is based on its Roubaix endurance bike, as well as the outgoing Allez. The stack figure on our 52cm test bike, for example, remains at 552mm. There are some small changes, however, that make the new Allez geometry more accessible to newer riders. The reach figure of 364mm is 12mm shorter than the old Allez and the head tube angle has been slackened from 73 degrees to 71 degrees. Added to this more compact ride position is a trail figure that’s up from 55mm to 71mm. This is designed to make the handling more predictable. • Vitus Launched New Venon Evo all-road bike with gravel capability
Vitus Launched New Venon Evo all-road bike with gravel capability
    May 22, 2023

The new Vitus Venon Evo is an all-road bike that can be set up for fast gravel riding, with clearance for 45mm tyres, but also available in road endurance specs with 28mm tyres. Vitus reckons that the Venon Evo will appeal to riders who want to be able to mix road and off-road rides and who might invest in a second wheelset, so that they can quickly choose whether it’s a gravel or a tarmac riding day. There’s a wide range of groupset options including Shimano Di2 and SRAM AXS for road specs and SRAM single-ring groupsets for gravel configurations. Current road specs include 25mm alloy Prime wheels, but Vitus will introduce options with aero carbon wheels in late 2023. All-road frameset The Vitus Venon Evo is the latest addition to Vitus’s drop bar bike range, plugging the gap between its Substance gravel bike and its performance-oriented ZX1 Evo aero bike and Vitesse Evo lightweight road bike. The original Vitus Venon was an endurance bike, but Vitus wanted to make the new Venon Evo more versatile and suitable for fast gravel riding as well as longer road rides. To that end, it has clearance for 45mm tyres and a geometry that’s midway between the Substance and the Vitesse Evo. The most tricky part of adding space for wide tyres is usually the area behind the bottom bracket, where there are constraints imposed by the bottom bracket shell width and the chainline. To get around these, gravel bikes often have a dropped chainstay on the right side. This gives the bikes a slightly lopsided, distinctive gravel bike look, which Vitus wanted to avoid. While many aero road bikes have their bottom bracket shell built up above the axle, the Venon Evo’s extends below the axle. This allows Vitus to anchor the chainstays lower down, which has the same effect as the dropped chainstay on a gravel bike, allowing extra tyre clearance while maintaining the symmetric straight chainstays and short 420mm chainstay length of a road bike and keeping a shortish wheelbase. There’s also plenty of front tyre clearance at the fork crown. To compensate for its height, Vitus has kept the head tube comparatively short for an endurance or gravel-oriented machine, while still providing a higher stack than on its road race bikes. The front end of the Venon Evo is an evolution of the ZX1 aero bike, and Vitus says its CFD modelling shows it to be even more aero. There’s internal brake hose routing using an FSA NS SMR stem, with the brake hoses enclosed within a plastic sleeve under the stem and then routed invisibly into an FSA ICR headset. Higher spec road-going bikes are equipped with Prime Primavera aero carbon handlebars, while gravel specs get either alloy or carbon Prime gravel bars. At the rear, the Venon Evo has a conventional round carbon seatpost, with a round seat tube which has a small cut-out for the rear wheel. Like Vitus’s other Evo bikes, the Venon Evo has a one-piece main frame, which Vitus says helps reduce the frame’s weight. Although there are mudguard mounts, the...

Dutch government plans to allow 100,000 people to cycle to work by 2025
    May 15, 2023

The Dutch government recently launched a new promotional project to encourage people to ditch their cars and ride bicycles for short trips. According to the "Netherlands News Network" report on the 8th, Dutch Infrastructure Minister Vivienne Heginen launched the project on the same day. She believes that this will not only promote environmental protection, but also benefit people's health. Figures from the Dutch government show that half of all trips by car are less than 7.5 kilometers and a third are less than 5 kilometers. In addition, 7 out of 10 people in the country are willing to ditch their cars for healthier bicycles on short trips. The Dutch government plans to allow 100,000 people to ride bicycles to work by 2025; by 2027, the total distance traveled by bicycles will increase by 20% compared to 2017. To this end, the Dutch government is preparing to invest 800 million euros (about 6.1 billion yuan) to develop new bicycle lanes, improve road safety, and add more parking spots.

  • Chris King launches the ARD44 carbon aero wheelset with features recyclable carbon
Chris King launches the ARD44 carbon aero wheelset with features recyclable carbon
    May 10, 2023

Portland Oregon-based manufacturer Chris King Precision Components is well-known for their quality and durability due to their manufacturing processes, materials sourcing, and resulting high-end products. To comply with the trends of down-cyclable carbon, Chris King released its latest Fusion Fiber wheelset, the ARD44 — the first recyclable carbon wheels of its kind and entirely made in the USA. The ARD44 wheelset is designed to handle both road and off-road use. It uses a new carbon tech called FusionFiber, which Chris King says took four years to develop and provides damping from road vibrations for a smoother, more comfortable ride. FusionFiber is also claimed to be more robust and durable, as well as handling better and running more quietly, without additional weight. Rather than embedding the carbon fibre in epoxy resin, it uses a nylon matrix, which Chris King says is more flexible and less prone to cracking under impact. Its testing has shown that the rims can withstand 275 per cent of the UCI’s minimum standard for impact resistance. Chris King’s new ARD44 wheelset uses a 44mm deep, 25mm internal width hookless bead rim and has a claimed weight of 1,525g. The rim is made of a novel carbon fibre-nylon composite that Chris King says is more durable and smoother-running than conventional epoxy-based carbon rims. It’s also fully recyclable. FusionFiber technology is said to make rims that are not only more durable than traditional carbon fiber products; they're also highly impact-resistant and dampening. "The ARD44's rim produces a stable, responsive, and nimble ride while reducing bodily fatigue and strain on the rider due to the superior damping attributes of FusionFiber's thermoplastic technology," Chris King claims. "It effectively minimizes unnecessary road feedback and vibrations, resulting in better traction and a smooth, comfortable ride that will keep riders fresher, longer, and make the next day's ride easier too." SPECS: FusionFiber Thermoplastic construction 44mm Depth Front and Rear Weight: 1525g for the set Available with Ceramic or Steel Hub bearings (+$120 for ceramic upgrade) R45D Hubs available in all 2023 Color options 25mm internal rim width / 30.5 external width Designed for 28mm-32mm tires, accommodating up to 47mm ISO 5775/ETRTO 25-622 Rim Bead Seat TSS Hookless rim design for seamless compatibility with modern TSS road and gravel tires

UCI releases maps about 2023 World Championships in Glasgow
    May 09, 2023

The UCI released the full schedule, maps and profiles for the first unified UCI World Championships due to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from August 3 - 13, with slight revisions of the distances announced last September. The 14.3-kilometre local circuits in the Glasgow city centre were previewed by some members of the Belgian National Team last week. Wout van Aert posted the route to his Strava profile. "Not only are there 42 corners, it can get hectic," said national team coach Serge Pauwels. "Sometimes you turn at right angles into an asphalted walking path in the park, where there is still a pole in the middle to keep out traffic. It is never 500 meters straight ahead." The 2023 UCI Road World Championships kick off on August 5 with the junior women's 70-kilometre road race (5 laps) and the junior men's 127.2km race (9 laps). The elite men's road race will take place on August 6 due to the proximity of the Tour de France Femmes to the start of Worlds. The elite women will race on August 13. The men will start in Edinburgh and race 120 kilometres to the circuits, where they will complete 10 laps for a total of 271.1km. On the closing weekend, the under-23 men's and elite women's road races will start in Loch Lemond. The under-23 men will cover 60km before the seven closing circuits for 168.41km, while the elite women will do one less circuit for 154.1km. The individual time trials take place in Stirling on circuits of varying lengths, all of which finish on a tough but short climb. Junior women will race 13.4km, junior men 22.8km, under-23 men and elite women 36.2km, and elite men 47.8km. • The New Trends for Bottom Bracket in the future -Carbon Fiber Thread on Bottom Bracket
The New Trends for Bottom Bracket in the future -Carbon Fiber Thread on Bottom Bracket
    May 04, 2023

A few years ago, press-fit bottom brackets were almost the standard equipment for new frames of major manufacturers. Although embedding bearings in the frame can help improve rigidity, it also requires a relatively high level of manufacturing precision for the frame. Moreover, the press-in center shaft has high requirements for dustproof and waterproof, and it is prone to abnormal noise if used improperly. And many brands have returned to the traditional threaded bottom bracket, for example, the new Specialized Epic WC, Mondraker Podium. Of course, there are also brands that have never left the threaded bottom bracket, such as Santa Cruz Blur and Orbea Oiz. Now, Canadian brand Bridge Bike Works is adding molded carbon threads directly to the carbon fiber frame, replacing the aluminum block threads. Bridge Bike Works says that this design helps to further reduce the weight of the threaded bottom bracket without worrying about precision issues, and the carbon fiber thread will be treated with Cerakote ceramic coating. The current molded carbon thread is based on the T47-BB86 specification, which Bridge says combines the best of both threaded and press-fit bottom brackets. Bridge's system is currently patent-pending. Let's look forward to the new performance of the carbon fiber bottom bracket.

2023 Sea Otter Show the WorldTour version of the RCR
    April 25, 2023

Decathlon has been offering the Van Rysel brand for a while now, with a range of aero road bikes, all-terrain road bikes (Gua Che is now under the Riverside brand) and enduro road bikes, hoping that in the future their bikes will be like what they do - large Like the sports supermarket, it is in a leading position in the world. Decathlon business development manager Peter Lazarus said that Van Rysel's goal is clear - to become "the world's top five bicycle brands". As you might expect, they still stick to the tradition of high value for money. Foreign media saw Van Rysel's new top model RCR at the 2023 Sea Otter Exhibition. Combined with the new cars we saw at the domestic press conference before, we can summarize Van Rysel's current product lineup: RCR - aero road bike FCR – the aerodynamically optimized race bike GRVL GCR - Competition All-Terrain Road bike NCR - Endurance Road bike GRVL Ti - titanium alloy all-terrain road bikes These new bikes will be sold in Europe through Decathlon, and they should be launched simultaneously in China in the next few months. Van Rysel RCR According to Lazarus, the RCR is Van Rysel's new aero road bike, designed by the brand in collaboration with French aerospace company Onera. It uses classic aero frame designs like truncated tubes, lowered chainstays, aero seatpost and full internal cable routing. Designed with the French aerospace lab, ONERA, the RCR is an all-out carbon racer which aims to strike a balance of aerodynamics, comfort and energy transfer. The carbon aerodynamic frameset is paired with a two-piece cockpit consisting of an aero profile handlebar and a Deda-made stem that tucks the cables neatly away, routing them from the bars underneath the stem and into the headset. The matte black RCR on display comes with a SRAM Force AXS groupset and Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels wrapped in Michelin Power Cup tubeless tires. Although it is said to be an aero bike, the RCR is actually more like an all-round road bike, providing up to 33mm of tire clearance. The complete bike with SRAM FORCE AXS configuration weighs only 7.2kg. The handlebar is split, which is convenient for users to fit. After all, Decathlon's cars have always emphasized ease of use. The internal cable routing stem was developed by Van Rysel in cooperation with DEDA. The SRAM FORCE AXS exhibited at the Sea Otter Exhibition has a high configuration, equipped with Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels and 28c Michelin POWER CUP tubeless tires. The price is 6999 US dollars, 4700 euros. A WorldTour version of the RCR was also on display in the Sea Otter Classic booth, though the brand’s representatives would not confirm which team will be riding this bike come the new season. RCR uses a different carbon fiber layup with the main purpose of increasing stiffness around the head tube. Van Rysel claims a frame weight of 810g, impressive for a semi-aero bike. The weight of the whole vehicle has dropped to the UCI standard of 6.8 kg. Van Rysel says this is largely d...
