The New Trends for Bottom Bracket in the future -Carbon Fiber Thread on Bottom Bracket

May 04, 2023

A few years ago, press-fit bottom brackets were almost the standard equipment for new frames of major manufacturers. Although embedding bearings in the frame can help improve rigidity, it also requires a relatively high level of manufacturing precision for the frame. Moreover, the press-in center shaft has high requirements for dustproof and waterproof, and it is prone to abnormal noise if used improperly.

And many brands have returned to the traditional threaded bottom bracket, for example, the new Specialized Epic WC, Mondraker Podium. Of course, there are also brands that have never left the threaded bottom bracket, such as Santa Cruz Blur and Orbea Oiz. Now, Canadian brand Bridge Bike Works is adding molded carbon threads directly to the carbon fiber frame, replacing the aluminum block threads.

Bridge Bike Works says that this design helps to further reduce the weight of the threaded bottom bracket without worrying about precision issues, and the carbon fiber thread will be treated with Cerakote ceramic coating. The current molded carbon thread is based on the T47-BB86 specification, which Bridge says combines the best of both threaded and press-fit bottom brackets.

Bridge's system is currently patent-pending.

Let's look forward to the new performance of the carbon fiber bottom bracket.
