Scott recalls five models over steerer tube fracture risk

January 24, 2023

Scott recently issued a voluntary recall of its Speedster line of bikes, covering road and gravel bikes versions of the model.

"Scott is conducting this recall because internal testing has determined that the steerer tube/fork bridge may fracture, posing a crash hazard," the notice read, with a separate report providing details on the reason for the recall, explaining that internal A crack in the fork steerer tube was discovered during testing. "To date, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries due to a broken fork, and no reports of fork failure."

The recall affects a total of five models in the Scott 2022 lineup. Including the Speedster 40 and Speedster 50 road bikes, as well as the Speedster Gravel 50, Speedster Gravel 40 EQ and Contessa Speedster Gravel 35 gravel bikes, a total of 1,985 bikes are affected.

The risky models are sold in Europe, Asia and South America. Customers in the US or Australia are not included in the recall.

Owners of these models are told to check for a green dot under their front fork bridge. If there is no green dot, it needs to be recalled, and the models with green dot can continue to ride.

Scott advises owners of the above models to stop riding immediately and take the recalled bike to an authorized Scott dealer for a free replacement fork.
