Dutch thieves began to take action at the eBike battery

January 23, 2023

With electric bikes becoming more common in Europe, more than half of the bikes sold in the Netherlands are now electric models. Local thieves are also choosing to learn new techniques to keep up with The Times. Thefts of electric bikes in the Netherlands have soared in recent years, but recently, thieves have tended to steal only batteries, with the number of battery thefts in the Netherlands tripling from 2021 in 2022.

Local police say a stolen electric bike can fetch more than 1,000 euros, while a single battery can be sold for as little as 500 euros. For a thief to take a battery, rather than steal a car is much cheaper.
