Dutch electric bicycle sales will reach 453,000 units in 2023

As an old bicycle market in Europe, the Netherlands is far ahead in market size and maturity in Europe and even the world. As the electric two-wheel trend intensifies, e-bikes are also growing rapidly in the Netherlands.

In 2023, Dutch electric bicycle sales will reach 453,000 units, and electric bicycle sales will reach 1.17 billion euros. In 2023, the sales of electric bicycles in the Dutch bicycle market have reached 56%, with a penetration rate of more than half. At the same time, the sales of electric bicycles account for 80% of the bicycle market. Although sales and sales have declined, the proportion of electric bicycles in the Dutch bicycle market is increasing year by year. According to statistics, there are currently 4.9 million electric bicycles in the Netherlands, and the market value of these electric bicycles is 9.5 billion euros. As far as the electric bicycle category is concerned, electric city bicycles account for the largest share, reaching 84%, by hybrid electric bicycles and sports and racing electric bicycles.

Unlike most countries where consumers of electric two-wheelers tend to be younger, the main buying group of electric bicycles in the Netherlands is middle-aged and elderly people between the ages of 46-65. Data shows that consumers aged 65 and above account for more than 40% of the Dutch e-bike buyers, and consumers aged 50 to 65 account for 25% of the e-bike buyers.
